The VA Fisher House at Jefferson Barracks has 20 bedroom suites, each with a private, mobility-accessible bathroom. Families share a large common kitchen, laundry facilities, a warm dining room, an inviting living room, and a relaxing outdoor back patio that overlooks the Mississippi River.

This Fisher House opened in July 2010, and since then has hosted more than 14,250 guests! It provides a “home away from home” for families of Veterans and active-duty Service Members who are receiving care provided, or funded, by the VA St. Louis Health Care System. Guests are able to be near their loved ones while having a comfortable, peaceful place to find rest and support for themselves.
The Fisher House provides free temporary lodging to accompanying individuals (e.g., relatives, close friends, or caregivers) of Veterans and active-duty Service Members who are receiving an episode of care that is funded and coordinated by the John Cochran VAMC. This includes direct care at one of John Cochran’s St Louis campuses or through VA’s community care program.
With the help of thousands of donors, the Friends of Fisher House St. Louis (FoFHSTL) supported the construction of VA Fisher House at Jefferson Barracks. Today, the FoFHSTL continues to raise funds to provide meals, local transportation, overflow hotel stays, comfort items and more, in support of the VA as they operate that Fisher House in many ways.
