The Fisher House in St. Louis provides a home away from home for families of Veterans receiving care at the St. Louis VA Medical Center.

Guests are able to be near their loved ones while having a comfortable, peaceful place to find rest and support. More than a convenient and beautiful place to stay, the guests of Fisher House share common experiences, form friendships and become a unique kind of family — a Fisher House family.

Eligibility

Who Qualifies to Stay?

Referral from a VA social worker or clinical staff member
Traveling more than 50 miles from home to the St. Louis area
Medically stable and capable of self-care
Able to stay in an unsupervised setting
No contagious conditions (including the common cold)
Must sign and follow the Fisher House guest agreement
Veterans must be accompanied by a family member or caregiver

How do I arrange to stay at the Fisher House in St. Louis?

Referrals to the Fisher House are done by social workers or clinical staff. An initial screening will be conducted to determine appropriateness. Rooms are assigned on a first come, first served basis — one room per veteran family.

What are the eligibility requirements?

To qualify, guests must have a referral and be traveling a distance greater than 50 miles from their homes to the St. Louis area. Guests must be medically stable and capable of self-care, and be prepared to provide support for the hospitalized veteran. The guest must be able to stay in an unsupervised setting and must not have any contagious conditions. Guests must agree to sign and follow the Fisher House guest agreement. Veterans that stay at the Fisher House must be with a family member or caregiver — veterans are not authorized to stay at the Fisher House by themselves. Please contact your social worker or the Fisher House for more information and other qualifying factors.

Is there any charge for staying at the Fisher House in St. Louis?

There is no charge for staying at the Fisher House.

What are your hours?

The house is open year-round, 24/7 for family members of Veterans and military members getting medical treatment. Staff is present Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Sunday 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., except for Federal Holidays. If a family needs to check in when staff is not present, with advance notice, staff can make arrangements for VA Security to meet incoming guests at the house.

Staff is on-site Mon–Fri 7 a.m.–7 p.m., Sat 9 a.m.–5:30 p.m., and Sun 1 p.m.–8 p.m. (except Federal Holidays). After-hours check-in can be arranged with advance notice through VA Security.
